Studied the time course of graphic, phonological, and semantic activation in the recognition of high frequency Chinese characters. Ss were 120 university students (Exp 1 and 2) in Beijing Normal University, China. The priming-target pairs were in 4 types of priming: graphic, phonological, semantic priming, and nonpriming, and the durations between priming and target were at stimulus onset asynchrony (SOA) 43 ms, 57 ms, 85 ms, and 145 ms respectively.
